Monday 17 November. Tel Aviv - Caesarea - Haifa - Acre - Tiberias |
Today we will take
you through a beautiful coastal route to the
north of Israel. The first stop is at Caesarea,
the seat of government during the Roman Era. From
this period you will see the fort, theatre and
aqueducts. Haifa is the third largest city of
Israel. The Carmel mountaintop has a fantastic
view over this harbour and trade city. A little
bit further north is the city of Acre. Crusaders
and the Turks have influenced the exterior of
this city. Here you will see a caravanserai,
fortifications at the harbour, a cozy bazaar and
the Knights Hospitaller convent. From Acre we
will drive to the final destination for today:
Tiberias. Hotel Crown Plaza in Nazareth |
| Day 4 /
Tuesday 18 November 2008. Tiberias - Boat ride - Capernaum - Tabgha - Mount of Beatitudes - Tiberias |
We begin the day with
a boat trip on the Lake of Galilee. Our boat is a
replica from the time when Jesus lived here. This
is followed by a guided tour of the synagogue of
Capernaum dating from the third century. Near
Capernaum the little church of Tabgha
(Heptapegon) remembers the miracle of dividing
the bread and fish. Experience the peaceful
atmosphere on the mountain where Jesus proclaimed
the Beatitudes (Matt. 5: 3-12). Hotel Crown Plaza in Nazareth |
| Day 5 /
Wednesday 19 November. Tiberias - Mount Tabor - Nazareth - Tiberias |
Today we take a day
trip from Tiberias to the Jezreel Valley, one of
Israels most important agricultural areas.
First we visit Mount Tabor, the mountain of
glorification. Taxis take us to the top because
the road is too steep for the bus. On to Megiddo
and then to the Church of the Annunciation in the centre of Nazareth. We end the day with a visit to the Yardenit baptism site. Hotel Crown Plaza in Nazareth |
| Day 6 /
Thursday 20 November. Tiberias - Belvoir - Beit Shean - Jericho - Jerusalem |
Today we travel
further south through the Jordan valley on our
way to Jerusalem. The first stop is Belvoir
Castle. This crusader castle is built out of big
blocks of black basalt. From the fort there is a
beautiful view over the Jordan valley. We then
travel to Beit Shean. This city played a big part in the history of Saul and Jonathan. Archaeologists have found a well-preserved Roman theatre. We will visit the excavations from the Roman and Byzantine time. Using a very beautiful route, we will then drive by Jericho, the oldest known inhabited city in the world, on our way to Jerusalem. Hotel Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza in Jerusalem |
| Day 7 /
Friday 21 November. Jerusalem Old Town |
The excursion begins
today at the Mount of Olives. From this point you
will have a great view over the Old City and the
skyline of New Jerusalem. On the slopes of the
hill we visit the Garden of Gethsemane. We then
enter the Old city of Jerusalem through the Lions
Gate, one of the eight ancient gates that lead
into Jerusalem. Directly behind the gate you will
find the Pool of Bethesda. Walking on the Via
Dolorosa, we enter the Church of The Holy Sepulchre. We continue to the Jaffa gate, the main entrance to the city. Through the beautifully restored Jewish quarter we reach Mount Zion. Here we will visit the room where Jesus and the disciples ate the Last Supper. We then make our way to the Garden Tomb. Hotel Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza in Jerusalem |
| Day 8 /
Saturday 22 November. Jerusalem New Town; Knesset - Holy Land model - Holocaust Memorial |
Today we visit the new
part of Jerusalem. In front of the Knesset, Israel’s
House of Parliament, stands a large bronze Menorah,
the symbol of the state of Israel. In a hotel garden
we visit a scale model of Jerusalem from the time of
Jesus. We then move to Yad Vashem, the very impressive
monument that invites us to remember the 6 million
Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Hotel Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza in Jerusalem |
| Day 9 /
Sunday 23 November. Jerusalem - Qumran - Masada - Dead Sea - Jerusalem |
From Jerusalem we
make an excursion to the Dead Sea and the
surrounding area. We begin the day with a healing
service at Ein Gedi. After the service we take a
bus to one of the lowest points on earth, 400
meters below sea level. We all will have an
opportunity to try to swim there. A unique
experience! At the shore of the Dead Sea we take a cable car to the mountain fort of Masada, the sanctuary of King Herod. The Zealots, a Jewish group opposed to Roman rule, occupied this sanctuary for three years before their mass suicide. Hotel Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza in Jerusalem |
| Day 10 / Monday 24
November. Abu Gosh - Jerusalem, vrije middag |
After breakfast we travel to Abu
Gosh, which has a splendid view over the
surrounding area. This is the site of Kiryat
Ye'arim where the Ark of the Covenant rested for
20 years before King David attempted to bring it
back to Jerusalem. Spend the afternoon exploring
Jerusalem before the evening gala at our Hotel. Hotel Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza in Jerusalem |
| Day 11 / Tuesday 25
november. Tel Aviv - Amsterdam |
We travel from the hotel to Ben Gurion Airport to fly back to Amsterdam. |
